There are many diseases in the Sahara Desert. These include diarrheal illnesses from contaminted water, insect borne diseases such malaria, yellow fever, hepatitis A, and thypoid.
malaria
Malaria is a disease caused by parasite. The disease is transmitted through a bite from an infected female Anopheles mosquito, which introduces the organism from its saliva into a person's circulatory system. The disease is wide spread in tropical and subtropical regions in a broad band around the equator. The symptoms include chills, fever, vomiting and diarrhea. To prevent having malaria, you should always put on bug repellent spray. Malaria is a preventable and curable disease. Medications to prevent and treat malaria are Chloroquine, Quinine sulfate and Hydroxychloroquine. Malaria is diagnosed by the microscopic examination of blood using blood films. In 2010, the disease killed between 660,000 and 1.2 million people. Approximately 40% of the total global population is at risk of Malaria infection. During the 20th century the disease was effectively eliminated in the majority of non-tropical countries but continues to be a major health issue in Africa.
african trypanosomiases
This parisitic disease is caused by Trypansoma brucei. It is also called the African Sleeping Sickness. It is transmitted by the bite of an infected tsetse fly. It begins with fevers, headaches, and joint pains. Several weeks later, the infected person can develop confusion, poor coordination, and trouble sleeping. Treatment is easier when the disease is detected early. Medications that can treat the illness include pentamidine in the early stages and eflornithine in the late stages.
giardiasis
This disease is caused by protist giardia. The infection happens after drinking contaminated water, which has the parasite. Symptoms are watery diarrhea, stomach pains, and dehydration. Some treatments include metronidazole, albendazole, and tinidazole. Sometimes, the illness resolves itself.
yellow fever
The yellow fever, known as the yellow jack, is a viral infection spread my mosquitos. The disease is caused by the yellow fever virus and is spread by the bite of the female mosquito. It only infects humans, other primates, and several species of mosquito. The virus is an RNa virus of the genus Flavivirus. Most cases cause headaches, pains, vomiting and more. This disease can be transmitted by mosquitos once they bite you. Sadly, there is no cure for yellow fever but hospitalization is advised. To prevent this disease, vaccination is recommended when traveling to affected areas. Yellow fever causes 200,000 infections and 30,000 deaths every year. Yellow Fever virus is mainly transmitted through the bite of the yellow fever mosquito Aedes aegypti.
Thypoid
Thypoid is a common worldwide bacterial disease transmitted by the ingestion of food or water contaminated with the feces of an infected person and is caused by the the bacteria Salmonella typhi. The illness is characterized by very high fever, sweating, gastroenteritis, and diarrhea. Although typhoid is very rare in the developed world, it is still a serious health threat in the developing world. Typhoid is treatable with antibiotics.
hepatitis a
Hepatitis A is an infectious disease of the liver caused by a virus that you get by drinking contaminated water. Some symptoms include nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, yellow skin, fever, and abdominal pain. There are no specific tratment for hepatitis A. If you do get Hepatitis A, you should avoid fatty foots and alcohol. Remember to eat a well-balanced diet and stay hydrated. You can get vaccinated.
