EDIBLE PLANTS/ANIMALS
It is very difficult to find edible food in the desert to eat. A list of some are shown below:
Edible Figs can be found on the Common Fig Tree. We can pick the figs from a tree and eat it for breakfast.
The doum palm tree is edible. We can cut down branches of the palm tree and eat the cores. It bares an edible red orange fruit that tastes like ginger bread.
The Date Palm Tree produces edible dates. Hopefully, we can collect the dates from the ground.
Thyme is flavorful herb that we can use to season our meat when we cook it. We can pick the herb since it is a low-lying plant.
The Magaria tree has big, long roots for storing water for long periods of time. Its fruit is similar to the size of a cherry. The fruit is usually dried.
There are different kinds of gazelles in the Sahara Desert that can be hunted for meat.
Jack Rabbits can be hunted down in the Sahara Desert.
Ostriches live in the Sahara Desert. If found, they can be a source of meat and eggs.
watch out for poisonous plants
We will make sure we do not pick any fruit or berries that are poisonous and will cook the meat thoroughly to make sure we don't get any infections from the uncooked meat.
Example:
Datura produces flowers that turn into fruit. The fruit can be poisonous.
